Childe Rowlands to his Dark Hour Came

I started from the mad cackle
Of his laugh, as one
Reaching to grasp a friend
By hand should of a sudden stop an gasp,
To find the once familiar face transform’d and rend
Into a Devil’s mask.

While all about me seemed
To notice not one whit.
And yet the very earth did teem
Beneath me.  The horror of the pit
Blew its foul air across my face and steam
From out of it

Obscured my eyes; and staggered thus
To feel his hideous eyes
Seek out from mine in dark disgust
And shame, the wild surmise
That all this horror standing there was just
Myself caught by surprise.
Lord of the Dance -
Save the last dance for me.

What is this life, if full of care, we have no time to curse and swear?

Oh my,
Ennui.

(Or if you're French):

Oh me,
Ennui.

SOCIAL COMMENTARY #2

He thought he saw a spaceship
Flying through the night.
He looked again and saw it was
A UFO in flight.
“For just a little while,” he said
It gave me quite a fright!”

SUMMER IS GONE

Summer is gone,
But joys and youth are still about me
And hover in the heavy air like grains of dust.

I bear the stain of life.
The blood has run where experience has pierced me through,
The pristine canvas rent, and torn
The shattered, broken frame.

The cold of winter takes the dying spark
As time itself will claim its own;
And Tennyson’s enchanted lady leaves me
Upon the shores of some Aegean sea;
Waiting, like Time and Tide
For no man, who never comes.

EPITAPH

And when the night wafts over me,
And my towers fall to sand,
Let them 'grave these words for me:
"He didn't understand."
